Artist Statement
In August 2022, I decided to take a break from teaching. In that pause, I found my way back to something I had always known: creating brings me joy.
Yes, I am a piece of art in progress!
I am still learning every day, and I enjoy every minute of the process. My journey toward an authentic life is bold and rewarding. I choose to live aligned with my values, true to my inner self. I admire the wind, the rain, the rays of sunshine as they move around me. I take them as reminders to slow down, and I carry all of it into my art.
I love to doodle, create with fabric, paint on homemade paper, carve prints using linoleum, build tiny books, and photograph nature.
I also discovered the meditative pull of pottery in November 2022. I fell deeply in love with the medium of clay. Creating both through wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, I make simple ceramics for daily use that are meant to bring joy to whoever touches or looks at them. I use pottery pieces as canvases for my illustrations I savor adding textures to give a meditative touch, using sgraffito and traditional carving techniques. Each artwork is meant to create a sensation of comfort, a call for slowing down.
My creations are perfect imperfections; and while I feel vulnerable sharing them with the world, I hope they bring joy to others.
